[Felix hasn't had to think about soulmates for a long time and, for that, he's glad. It was trouble enough trying to parse what the mark on his bicep meant, be shocked when it turned out his childhood best friend had a match to his, and then be shocked all over again when a third person, Dedue, showed up with their mark too.
Something that has been on the back of all their minds is the presence of violets in their marks. That one symbol is one that's never made sense but... again, Felix does his best to not think about that. He'll leave worrying over that to Dimitri, who seems to be the one most insistent about getting to the bottom of it.
Felix, what if we have another -
Three is already a crowd, shut up!!! It's more than his heart can handle!
He's happier focusing on his training, and his friends. Like Ashe. Ashe who is sweet and gentle and kind and too idealistic. Who sees the good in people even when they don't deserve the time of day. Yeah. His friend. Ashe. Felix pauses in his warmup upon seeing him.] Ready to go. Want to do some paired stretches?
['Cause obviously Ashe had to warm up now that he's here. But, but. Do things with him.]
[ Ashe nods, perhaps a tad bit too eager, but he doesn't think he can be blamed. After all, it's not like they do this often - at least half the time they're doing their own things instead. ] Of course! I'd be happy to.
[ He scouts out a part of the gym open enough for them to stretch together, then sets his water bottle and other gear to the side. ] Why don't you lie down first? We'll switch off once you're ready. [ He insists!!!!!!
Once Felix is in position with a leg up in the air, Ashe positions himself over him, placing his foot on his shoulder, and leans forward to stretch his hamstring. (have fun staring up at that radiant smile of his, felix.) ]
Oh! I've been meaning to ask - have you had a chance to read the book I lent you?
[Felix doesn't argue; if Ashe wants him to go first even though he already got some stretching in then so be it. But with Ashe hovering over him and touching him just so, Felix realizes this was probably a mistake. Ashe is very cute. His smile is very radiant. Hands very warm.
Felix grunts as the strain hits his leg.] Some of it. The protagonist is kind of an idiot, isn't he. Who actually picks a random amnesiac up out of field with zero reservations?
[Actually. That sounds like something Dimitri would do. Or Sylvain if it were a pretty girl. Idiots.]
Oh, sorry- [ Hearing the grunt, Ashe eases up just slightly. ] Is that better?
[ He adjusts according to Felix's instruction, then returns to the subject at hand. ] But I thought you might say something like that... I won't spoil the story for you, but the bond they share is truly incredible! [ They're practically soulmates, Felix!!!! ]
Have you met the masked swordsman yet? Honestly, they reminded me of you. [ they're cool and strong, you're cool and strong, y'know. ]
[Felix makes another noise but this time it’s one of surprise. He has, indeed, gotten to the masked swordsman. And he can’t possibly fathom the similarities between the character and himself.] W-what, why?
[ Ashe is quick to recover from his moment of surprise at the shocked noise Felix makes. A light shines in his eyes as he begins listing his reasons. ]
Well, for starters, you're both strong and admirable! And you have this air of coolness about you that makes you seem so mysterious, just like them.
[ He pauses briefly, to switch focus to his other leg. ] Also, while you both act aloof, you really care about others. Why else would the swordsman come to the protagonist's rescue? [ well okay there's OTHER reasons but spoilers!!! ] I know you end up complaining about your roommates sometimes, but I can tell you do care about them quite a bit. [ Shyly: ] And, me as well.
You're both really incredible, and I... I'm really happy to have met you, Felix.
Felix flusters immediately. And, as he would if Dimitri or Dedue caught him off guard with some gay shit, he lashes out in response.] Enough! How can you say that with a straight face? And if you knew my roommates you would know there's --
[More to it. He cares, but begrudgingly. (not at all begrudgingly. he loves dimitri and dedue more than he'd ever admit). But before Ashe can get a word in, Felix takes his leg back and sits up.] Get down here. Let's do a different stretch.
[ It's easy for him to say it with a straight face, in fact. And he would like to meet Felix's roommates one day.
But he won't say either of those things. Ashe drops the subject, and sits down across from Felix when asked. ] Alright. [ He spreads his legs as far as he can before holding out his arms for Felix to take.
As the stretch hits his back, Ashe takes a soft breath to ease into it. ] Hey, Felix? I'm sorry if I said too much. I don't want to make you uncomfortable. [ His head's down, but he still makes an effort to smile, small and apologetic. ] We can talk about something else.
I'm not uncomfortable. [Felix recovers from his bumbling, feeling just the slightest bit guilty over his outburst.] I'm just terrible at accepting compliments. [Ingrid has told him as much. Dedue has told him as much. And, yes, he cares about his roommates and Ashe but having Ashe acknowledge it to his face - put it out there in the open - is even harder for him to accept.] ... sorry.
[Just to prove how not uncomfortable he is with the topic, he continues kind of where they left off:] Anyway, if I'm the swordsman does that make you the protagonist's little sister? Fawning over them?
[As Felix is watching Ashe's face for a reaction, something peeking out from under Ashe's sleeve catches his eye.]
[ Ashe is about to apologize a second time - "no, it's okay, I understand, all of that was out of the blue, huh?" - but then Felix hits him with a character comparison of his own and he can't help but giggle. ] I suppose it does! Not that I mind - she's a cheerful and compassionate woman, who's eager to befriend others. Honestly, it's an honor to be compared to her.
[ As he leans forward, that something - his soulmate mark - is further revealed. Decorative sword hilts stick out from what appears to be a shield, similar to what Felix has seen on Dimitri. The big difference (besides the lion, still hiding beneath the sleeve of his shirt) is the lack of violets. ]
[Felix can't ignore it this time. He has, indeed, seen that shield and swords before. It's almost exact to Dimitri's soulmate mark over his heart. The swords are the same as the ones that spread the wide expanse of Dedue's back.

Felix tries to sound disinterested. Casual.] What, is that?
Huh? [ Ashe follows Felix's gaze down to his arm, where his mark lies. His cheeks turn pink, not from physical exertion, and he looks... sheepish? ] Promise me you won't laugh?
[ He rolls up his sleeve all the way, revealing the beautiful (and tough-looking) sword and lion-emblazoned shield design over his bicep. ] It- it's my soulmate mark. It's quite a cool design, isn't it? [ His voice pitches into a nervous giggle as his thumb brushes over one of the blades. ] Though I'm not sure if it really suits me... but I'm sure it'll all make sense, once I meet my soulmate!
[The lion confirms the horrible realization that's settling in Felix's chest. Just as the swords are the same on Dedue's, the lion is the same on Dedue's and his own. The only imagery Ashe is missing is the violets that is present in all three of their marks.

He rises to his knees before Felix, hesitant. Should he reach through this wall he's formed around himself, or keep his distance? ]

[ He goes for the former, resting his hand gently against his arm. His thumb brushes against him in a motion Ashe hopes is soothing. ] Felix, what's wrong?
[Felix wrenches his arm away from Ashes touch. It’s unnecessary. They’re in public. He’s being cruel. But he’s so fucking mad. Was he only drawn to Ashe in the first place because they’re soulmates? Had he made his own decision there or had it been influenced by stupid fucking fate.
He tugs his sleeve up, not even bothering to be kind to himself, and reveals his own soulmate mark. A shield emblazoned with a lion, the same as Ashe’s, is permanent on his bicep. The only difference, is, again, the violets decoratively scattered about.] This is what’s wrong.
[ It makes sense. Given the swords and shield, he always thought his soulmate would be strong. And he'd just said moments before that Felix was exactly that.
But why that reaction? Did he... not want to find his soulmate? Is there something wrong with him specifically?
His frown deepens, and he folds his hands in his lap. ] But I don't understand... why are you upset?
[How does Felix articulate that he's tired of being jerked around by fate? That he's beginning to feel helpless and like his decisions and own wants mean nothing anymore.
He doesn't.] Because I don't want three fucking soulmates.
[ That's not something he can mishear. He has three soulmates, and Felix is only one of them. ]
This is a lot to take in... [ And he should be focusing on calming Felix down, not his own feelings. But he has to know - ] You... know our other soulmates, then. [ It's not a question. Ashe doesn't think he'd phrase it like that if he didn't know for certain he's the third. ] Who are they?
[Felix laughs, dry and without any humor to it.] The boar and Dedue.

At least Felix is starting to calm down now that he’s had his outburst. He’s still angry, but it’s calming down to a simmer just below his skin.]

I don't know if it helps to hear this, but... you'll always be special to me, Felix. [ He says, soft and earnest, and gives him a small smile. ]
